Exactly that, are there any teachers or Heads out there that know the answer. My son needed 2 A's and 4 B's to stay at his school where he has been very happy. But he is one B short. I will be calling into his school in morning for advice, but I would like to have some idea of the cost before I ask them to have his 5 C's re-marked (this could be his only hope) Advice very welcome please thanks :A

Sorry not totally sure but just paid £50 to get my daughters 2 Chemistry AS modules re-marked.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

What were his predicted grades? I would think it would be worth asking the school to relax their rules a little rather than jumping in asking for a remark (some teachers may find this a bit offensive, as if you are saying someone hasnt done their job properly the first time).
Does he have the A/B grades in the subjects he wants to study at A-Level? If so, then i suspect the school will give into a bit of sweet talking and empahsising how much he wants to stay there and get great A level grades.0 -
problem is if they are re-marked it could potentially go the other way and get downgraded0

Just asked DH who is a teacher. He said there has to be a legitimate reason to suspect that the grade is wrong, and there would have to be a group of papers involved, not just one candidate. Worth asking the Examination Officer at the school, but he thinks they won't necessarily be interested - the school itself is graded on A-C grades so the difference between a C and a D grade would likely get them excited but not B and C.The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

yes - when i did my GCSE's - one paper was given too high mark - then they looked at a few more - and everyone in the year got down-graded
it was not nice0 -
Is he wishing to stay on at the same school as he has done his GCSE's at or is it a different one? If its the same then perhaps he may be able to stay on if they know him and the work that he is capable of?Weight Loss - 102lb0

hjb123 - yes it's the same school he has been at from beginning, trouble is it's a grammer school so open to whole of country for 6th form, they just cream the top kids.
regularsaver1 - But it's 10 minutes from our house so is good for us. I read that the results could be re-marked and then go against us:eek: but feel we have nothing to lose, its the cost really I wondered about.
crazyscientist - he has actually done bit better than predicted resultsAnd yes he has the 2 A's in the subject he want to do as A levels
wigginsmum - I am going to talk to examination officer in morning so hope to get some advice there.
He has suffered due to being youngest child in class birthday being 31 Aug, so has always had to work harder being so immature compared to rest of class, and has only really in last year been able to get his head down so to speak. He has mild dispraxia which they have helped him with (stamented last year) just feel he would be better to stay where he is familiar than trying to cope with new surroundings etc.0 -
on radio 2 at lunchtime today they were discussing the appeals procedure for gcse remarks (maybe you could listen again online?)
anyway one teacher called in and said the exam boards send more detailed mark breakdowns to the school, so they can tell the actual mark rather than just the grade. The caller said when students had missed a grade by 1 or 2 marks it made sense to appeal. Even if you get marked down a point or two on appeal, under those circumstances you won't srop a whole grade, so nothin (except the money!) to lose
maybe talk to the school and see if they can tell you what the actual marks were? have you asked them if it's possible he can stay on anyway?0 -
i hope the school are reasonable about it - it would be really harsh to not allow him to stay, especailly as the missing B isn't even in a subject he's continuing with.... good luck tomorrow!
i've never actually heard of marks changing after a re-mark though (admittedly with a levels) - i don't think the exam boards like to admit that they make mistakes....:happyhear0 -
No I havent yet spoken to his school, but will in the morning (I have been at work all day) thanks for all the advice, sad thing is he has been a very well behaved boy and his teachers all said they hoped he got good enough results so they could continue to teach him in A-levels. So I am proud of him anyway. Life is very hard x0
