Gas safe & gas work - what do i need?

Just a quick query getting a minor modification to the gas pipe entering the house to make some room in the garage for an electric door.

I have told builder that this must be done by a gas safe registered plumber.

But i heard from a friend that any gas works to a home need to be registered onlibe by the plumber, and i will get a receipt for works carried out and test etc. But when i asked builder he did not think so. I could not find anything on the gas safe website about this.

Please can someone clarify what i need (if anything) when the plumber arrives to move our gas pipe today.

Good morning: first...check the RGI's GSR ID card (also available online). This work doesn't need to be registered with GSR.. you could ask for a Gas Safety certificate issued by the RGI.

Gas Safe are not as clear on as they should be on this issue. The latest is that technically, only a flued appliance needs to be registered with them.

But, then they go and let you register cookers and other appliances on their web site, so the right hand doesn't appear to be talking to the left hand.

Installation of space and water heating appliances (not cookers) need to be registered with Building Control under Part L of the building regulations. This is done through Gas Safe (or can be done by the householder to the local council for work not done by a Gas Safe person)

Pipework etc does not need to be notified to building control.
