Hi Andrew, The laws came into play a couple of years ago...
You should be fine applying for anything in your own name as long as your file is clean.
The Default is V V small, Id say give it 6/12 months and she could start to be approved again. Its a very small amonunt in comparison to some Ive seen... including my own !0 -
Oh brilliant its not as bad as it seems then, Im only asking as we are going to renew our mortgage soon as our fixed term is up, another quick question is we earn approx 36,000 between us but our mortgage is 116,000 will we get that thru a high street bank because before we had to use a specialist company with my partners credit history?? Congrats on your new job also just been reading your other post.
Thanks

Hi Mike
]I have a question.
Several months ago I got a letter from BT saying I owed £13 I rang up and said pardon been with another co for 3yrs blah blah, They said oops sorry throw the letter away. Two wks later another letter this time from a debt agency via BT I rang up and went balistic blah blah as I haven't been with BT for over 3 yrs and up to 2 wks ago 1st time heard anything. They said your cheque bounced. Queried why they hadn't let me know etc and eventualluy they said soz and cleared the bill.
Last wk OH decides wants Sky broadband thus needing BT. Rang up all was well until they asked for a £50 deposit upfront for the line rental. OH queried if all pay this and they said "no we do a credit check and it comes backs if we are to charge them" Now I know that I did not owe BT money I have never ever bounced a cheque and I check my a/c online daily so i would know if a cheque bounced.
The point of my very long question is " am I now classed as a bad payer" and what can I do?
Thanks

Id get a copy of your credit file and see if they have put anything on there. I very much doubt it, and if they have, wo betide their sorry !!!8s!!
But, if you have had an issue, even though resolved, it may have tarnished your 'internal' credit score, hence them asking for a deposit.
Also, if your score is a tad low anyway for other reasons, like moving, credit balances, late payments... anything at all... this may have an effect.
Either way, BT are far too expensive, try NTL:Telewest... they are really good !0 -
Mike thanks for the help much appreciated.0

I've been paying a mobile contract in mum's name as c/o for a year, would I have been credit checked for this? If I cancel the contract and take it out in my own name, will they check me again? I should get a phone contract okay shouldn't I, it's been paid from my bank account for two years.
You can actually ask for a change of ownership and keep the same contract.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -

Hi Mike,
My turn for a question:
I owe a total of around £20,000. My 3 biggest debts total around £12,000 and I'm paying a total of £36.25 per week to clear them. One is with a DCA and the other two are with the original lender (MBNA). Previously, I was paying a total of £165 per month and got into trouble because the DDs bounced a few times.
The question is, as I am now in an "arrangement" to pay weekly would this factor alone affect my credit rating? Or am I right to think that it'd be up to the lender to report it or not?[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -
Im off out for a beer now. I'll reply in the monin for ya if thats ok...
