business bank account

hello everyone.
I'm just about to go limited after 25 years of being a partnership and have to open a new bank account in the new 'LTD' name. After 10+ years with Co-operative (business) i feel they are loosing interest and the internet banking which i use a lot is poor. So time for a change. I have been looking at Aliance and Leicester and Santander (which i believe are almost the same now?) because the banking appears free. However no point in free banking if its rubbish so i wondered if you would share any views you have on either of these or any others that you consider worth a look.
Many thanks in advance

We use A & L at work. I struggle because they lump all deposit cheques and all 'faster payments' made in one day in one total on the statement, which can mean a lot of back tracking if you balance your books once a month (I've recently started doing it daily all bar running the report which keeps me fairly up to date) All cheque deposits have to be made by post, which can add delays to getting the money in your account (unless your client is happy to pay by BACS or online banking themselves)
We've recently applied to them to open a second current account (been operating with a current and a deposit account up to now) but they keep refusing it. The company has never had an overdraft and I've got a feeling this is why - we aren't profitable to them :(

  • thanks. that helpful!
  • I used Lloyds a few years ago for business + personal accounts and was actually quite impressed with them.

I also underestand that they have a payment limit of £250.00. This is quite ridiculous for a business.
They don't have a problem with you making multiple payments but it looks very unprofessional!
I gather they are 'actively looking into this problem' and 'expect to fall into line with other banks by about a couple of months!!

Do you mean an upper limit on Faster Payments of £250?

I'm not aware of any upper limit on standard BACS type online payments, unless it's one set to the individual - mine is £10,000

Yes, I understand this to be the case with FP.
No problem with BACS except it takes 3 days and that is not always what is wanted.
