Sound Problem!!

The sound has disappeared on my computer (Windows XP)
I have moved the volume control slider to high but still no sound. I have a screen with built in speakers. Any help appreciated.

Do you have the speaker button next to your clock at the bottom right of the screen?

Click or double click the speaker button and a box should appear. At the bottom make sure the mute button is not ticked.

Are the speakers definitely still plugged in to the audio output on your base unit? Not been dislodged by someone kicking it, hoovering under the desk, whatever....?

I wouldn't have sort so if the speakers were attached to the monitor

There will still be a separate audio cable so the point made is perfectly valid.

    Thank You.

OP could also try plugging the audio lead that normally plugs into the back of the PC into an alternative audio source (walkman, iPod) to confirm that the speakers are still working. If so, and the cable is plugged into PC OK, that suggests either a soundcard fault or software problem with the PC

Have you looked in Device Manager under Audio devices to see what that says?

I usually do a system restore to yesterday to remove the update.. !
