Is it worth paying more for certain make up and toiletries?

I've recently started using Estee Lauder foundation but I've only recently started using foundation on a regular basis over the past year or so anyway. What did work when I was younger now doesn't seem suitable but I had a colour match session and the one I have now is just perfect. I imagine that I could find others that work for me in a cheaper range though.
As for other stuff, I will pay for more expensive brands of eye shadow as one will last me literally years and I do think they go on and stay on better - and I don't believe in chucking perfectly good stuff out after 6 months anyway. Lipsticks I will use both but I've always found that the more expensive products last longer, whichever make that happens to be. I wouldn't buy a pricey lip gloss though.
Face powder is to stop shine for me so it's good old Rimmel and I use a cheap supermarket brand of baby lotion for eye make up removal (although I love one that Lancome do). After trying quite a lot of cleansers etc. I've found one I'm happy with and that's the Olay antiwrinkle range which is all about £5.99 with the moisturiser being about £10. Don't use a night cream.
I think you should buy whatever you want and feel good using.0 -
I use Clinique foundation, and recently tested a whole load of other ones, each for about a week at a time - Clinique superbalanced definitely worked best for me, and I'm sticking to it. But then it doesn't suit one of my closest friends at all and she swears by Maybelline mousse something-or-other
and another prefers No7 - everyone really is different.
I use a fair amount of Clinque stuff, but certain things i prefer from other brands - Dior eyeliner, Benefit benetint, Superdrug 2True mascara etc.
I don't have a fixed price point, I just buy what I know works (and some I'm still experimenting and trying to find the ultimate via the toiletires challenge
) but I'm lucky in that I can afford a slightly more expensive brand if I need it, so it does depend on circumstances as well... 0 -
I spend more on foundation as the cheaper ones tend to go too yellow on me.
I use Max Factor and Chanel foundation. I like mineral foundation but it is sooooo messy:(
Lancome mascara tends to give me the best lashes, close second is Maybelline
Blusher, lip pencil and eye shadow tend to be the same whatever the cost. The best eye pencil I use is from Sally priced £2.
The Boots cucumber range works as well for me as any higher priced skin care.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

what eye pencil is that i'm always looking for the perfect one and where can you buy it. i have so many of them but haven't found the right one yet.I spend more on foundation as the cheaper ones tend to go too yellow on me.

I think you shouldn't feel bad about buying expensive stuff if it works for you, but also don't get into the trap of thinking that expensive is better (a lot of the time you are paying for the name and the advertising). I have friends who claim expensive is best, but they have never tried cheaper products!
I use Clinique lipstick as I find it's the best. I also use their face scrub as it suits my skin and lasts AGES. But, I have found that all cleansers pretty much do the same thing so just buy one that costs a few quid. I have also just started using a face powder that costs a fiver and is a MILLION times better than the expensive ones I have used before. I actually think the mid-price ranges are some of the best on the market. I think brands like L'Oreal have really good quality products and are very innovative.
I do use night cream. It gives my dry skin a boost and I also don't want to use a cream containing a SPF at night.
I'd love to hear which one this is, if you don't mind sharing!
Like others have said, there are some things that I will willing downshift on, but others seem a false economy.
I use Clinique foundation- either liquid or compact depending on the look I'm going for. I also use Clinique cream eyeshadow day to day as it does stay on. I'm a complete brand tart on blusher and to degree on lipgloss, although I do like the Clinique one. At the moment I am using the No 7 decades ones as the worked at about £1.50 each using the £5 off No 7 voucher last month :money:. I used to swear by Lancome mascara but now find the Maybelline is almost as good and 1/3 of the price. I'm also using the Aldi version of Touche Eclat as at £3 odd I think it does the job rather well.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator

I "think" I have found some ultimates.
Primer - no stand out
Foundation - I think its Boots No.7 intelligent foundation - found none better
Powder - Laura Mercier so far - but there may be better
Under Eye Concealer - Elemental Beauty
Regular Concealer - Elemental Beauty
Blusher/Bronzers - Laura Geller, love them, all of them, best by far.
Eye Shadow - barely wear it, normally just a bit of Bronzer lightly dusted over, so no favs.
Mascara - tried them all, have a problem with running (might be because I wear contacts), Lancome are better than most, but I think there could (should) be better. All I want is something that makes my lashs look thick & long and doesn't budge whatever is thrown at it, but removes ok!
Eyeliner, I like liquid eyeliner. They are all fairly good.
Eyebrow Make up - Smashbox Brow Tech, but there could be better.
Lipstick, Lancome Juicy Tubes.0 -
MrsE- have you tried the Virgin Cosmetics waterproof mascara. I used to sell their products and it is one of the best waterproof ones I have ever tried (or was when I last used it). I prefer a non-waterproof one personally, but that one is good.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator

I really really love Liz Earle's superskin concentrate and moisturiser, they're just a little more than I would normally spend.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”
