maternity pay question... :)

Hi, wanted to ask a question please? My employer is in the process of changing the terms of their maternity pay. Whilst this would seem to be of better benefit to full timers, I am not sure about myself as I work part-time.

What they are proposing is that they will pay full salary for the first six weeks of maternity leave and then thereafter will revert to 50% of salary for the remainder of the term of the maternity leave.

However, if they do this with myself and revert to 50% of salary, they would actually be paying me less than statutory maternity pay.

Can someone please clarify my thoughts on this which are - they cannot pay me less than the statutory maternity pay amount?

Thanks :)

That's how it works with the NHS (although there is something that says because it's half pay +SMP that can't be more than your normal pay)

Unless 90% of the OP's earnings are less than the SMP rate!!
