Nationwide Debit Card in Canada/US

Off to the US later this year, and just starting to think about what cards to use. Have a Nationwide current account with a VISA debit card and until last year had used it with no issues. However last year had a nightmare in Canada as after trying and failing to draw cash out in 4 or 5 banks in Vancouver eventually phoned the helpline to be told something about chip&pin security which I think most Canadian banks don't use yet, and that the only bank I could use was Scotiabank. Anyhow as I'm off to the US does anyone know if I will experience similar issues?

Never heard of this issue and I regularly use a Nationwide card in the US, they could be blocking the transaction due to fraud, but I don't know of any reason why chip & pin would affect a overseas ATM as they are mag read anyway.
There are issues in Gas Stations using prepay pumps as you have to enter a Zip Code for the billing address which proves problematic for overseas visitors.These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0
