Help! Our machine came with Norton Internet Security 2003. When I resubscribed last year I got Norton Anti-virus 2006.
We are having probs with NAV at the moment which prevents a full scan taking place (it says can't do it cos I haven't accepted the EULA). A symantec techie suggested uninstalling all Norton Products and then reinstalling NAV (for which I will have to pay a fee since I am outside of my 60 day download window).
So, today I started by uninstalling Norton Internet Security. Up to now I had sort of thought that this had been replaced by the NAV (ie I thought NAV was an enhanced NIS) and that I didn't need it. But am I right? Or have I just got rid of something vital???? Does the Windows Security Centre Firewall do the same job as NIS???
Help please. I don't want to turn the computer on if it is now vulnerable! (Am on work laptop with Sophos protection at moment).
Any thoughts? Easy peasy language please for this 'senior blonde!'

NAV is Norton antivirus. NIS is Norton internet security. NAV is only a part of NIS.
I think you are saying you are out of your subscription period now. If you want NIS again, why not uninstall NAV, then download the latest version of NIS. This is a more comprehensive package, and includes antivirus, and firewall. You will need to pay for this product though to get the next years definitions. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Thanks for that Rex_Mundi. No, I'm not out of subscription yet. Apparently when you subscribe and download you only get 2 downloads within 60 days of subscription, and if you then need to download it again (as I am going to have to do) I have to pay a fee (not another subscription, but still ...).Taking control, slowly.:rotfl: :rotfl:0

Yes, I know what you mean now. I'd forgotten about this feature that Norton offer in case you need to reinstall.
The windows firewall isn't all that good. I use, and recommend Zonealarm. This is free, and is a good little firewall. Makes sure that you switch off the windows firewall after you install this though.
Make sure you also have antispyware installed. Adaware, and Spybot are good ones to start (and both are free). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Iashem - I think I do have an icon on the desktop still, so will try that. Also, my machine does system restore, so I might also try restoring to an earlier point as well. Ho Hum. Elder son is going to be very cross with me for messing about while he is away!!!!Taking control, slowly.:rotfl: :rotfl:0
