Have you thought of Croatia? I lived in the capital for a couple of years and the coastline is really beautiful. There are lots of islands that are easy to visit by ferry in a similar way to the Greek Islands. There is always lots to do, it isn't as well known as Spain, Greece etc so you don't get the 18-30 atmosphere.

I love the look of Croatia, but I've got no chance of getting OH to agree to it. The Foreign Office say "There is an underlying threat from terrorism. Attacks, although unlikely, could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers." and "Land mines are still a danger in some more isolated areas. Highly populated areas and major routes are now clear of mines and are safe to visit. However, isolated areas in the mountains and countryside have not all been cleared."

Very tempted, I've been looking at Lake Garda in Italy & it looks ver tempting, but too expensive, unless any MSErs know better of course....

It is a very long drive but there is a great campsite- Bella Italia on the shore of Lake Garda, near Peschiera. It is a large site with tents, motorhomes, static caravans and little apartments. The facilities are great and there are all nationalities there.

There's a new site called Away Worldwide which has a really good holiday feature search on it across lots of Tour Operators. I understand it's still in Beta and will be improved with destination filters, etc. at some point but it's the most comprehensive search I've found across a range of tour ops if you want to find holiday accommodation with particular facilities. I really like the way you can search for large rooms, great for people with three young children who can't sleep in a separate room. I've had some headaches with that in the past!

Op, your dh sounds like a barrel pf laughs,- not to mention paronoid!
Why dont you leave him and at home and take the kids on holiday . You might actually have some chance of enjoying it then;)
He can stay in good ol england where there's never any threats from anybody is there...
