NatWest joint account new rules?

Hi
My hubby and I have had our joint account for 20 odd years and until recently both had access to any third party payee in our online banking...

I do not want a card reader (something else to have to store and sort and therefore don't have a PIN for it either), and so asked my hubby to set up a payment to our local grocer's business.

Normally, after a couple of uses the payee was added to our joint account list and this would enable me to pay also.. NOT NOW though, spoke to NatWest online and they said that because my husband set up the payee only he could pay it!!!
How silly is that on a JOINT account.

I would need to set up the same payee etc. myself in order to pay through the joint account.

One reason they gave was that it enables them to see which account holder accessed the account - my answer was that all the historical payees we both can access and if he logged on and paid one it would be listed as him making the transaction on his unique login and vice versa, it's only the ones made over the last couple of months I can't do.

Has anybody else had this problem, or is it just because I don't want a card reader?
Comments welcome and FYI am waiting back on a call from their technical staff (48 hours though), will update once I know more

Maybe there is another way.......:rotfl:

Based on our NatWest joint account online experience (the account it 30+ years old, I've had online banking since it started, my wife signed up 6 years or so ago), this is the norm. The only exception I can remember was a credit card payee that I set up (ie. one where I did NOT input sort code and account number myself) which also appears in my wife's list of payees. If it wasn't always thus then it changed so long ago that I can't remember.

But you don't need another card reader - use your husbands. And you don't need another PIN - you use the PIN that applies to your own cash/debit/cheque card.

Yes, it seems when looking at mine also if the Payee is to a Credit or Store Card these seem to appear for both users with Online Banking but Personal Payments etc do not only for the User who set this up.
