itezy.net - SCAM telephone call from Microsoft - NOT!

Just had a telephone call from purportedly Microsoft - the 'technical' division. They wanted to offer me free software (from Microsoft) that would protect me against viruses & speed up my machine.

The chap - Kevin Dawson :rotfl:- with a VERY strong Indian accent wanted me to go to www.itezy.net & click on the website - I didn't do it, & told him I thought it was a scam of somekind.

He asked me to google them - OK did it BUT went to 2nd page & it seems like this is a company that has 'done' Australia, they take control of your machine & want £40 from you to sort out your viruses. Saw a few people commenting on it once you get past the google links they have placed themselves.

Be aware people! He gave me a freephone number 0800 098 8270 (out of service) to phone back - had to put the phone down on him in the end to get rid of him - even though I told him I KNEW it was a scam & there was no way I'd fall for it. Still kept adamantly telling me he was from Microsoft - lying git! Apparently they take control of your machine & want £40 to stop the 'blue screen' they have introduced.

Pass it around please as some might fall for this.

Yep as a tech support advisor for one of the big PC manufacturers i can confirm that microsoft do not ever call out to customers. Quite the opposite in fact. Usually when you call them there is a fee for support.

    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • I too had a call today. The guy (said his name was Mike Cooper, a name I see has been used before by thiscompany) and that he was from Microsoft Tech support. The site he directed me to looked OK (itezy.net) and he took great pains to mention the Microsoft Window Help & Support details at the very top of the screen to imply he was from Microsoft. In addition said they were Microsoft certified etc...all sounded very plausable. However when he wanted me to click on the box to allow remote accessI declined and told him to call back later (to give me time to Google etc). He was very pushy & kept telling me to click on the box, which i didn't do. Unfortunately I did give him my e mail address so no doubt I'll be bombarded with mail from them. Ok I can always block I suppose! Anyway this is just a heads up as it appears they are doing the rounds again.

Be aware they have now resorted to spamming forums, including this one (I found this thread after spotting a spam post here and searching to check if there were any more spam posts on the forum).

So keep an eye out and report if spotted ;)

My 81-year old Dad had these lovely people call him the other day. They really need to work on their false names though - this was an indian who could barely speak English, yet his name was apparently "Steve Davis"! He was bullied into giving them remote access to his pc but then got suspicious when they asked for his credit card number and £200. Luckily he then called me. The machine is now with a professional who is trying to clear all the viruses and trojans out of it.

Can nothing be done about this kind of overseas-based computer fraud? Surely this is one to add to Martin Lewis' lobbying list for Government?

That's just the point, it's overseas. They probably gave him half the viruses when he gave them remote access.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

This seems to be kicking off again as '"Itech Assist"' - one of the NANAE regulars picked up a call from them:
    http://groups.google.co.uk/group/news.admin.net-abuse.email/browse_thread/thread/6a17c9a896277099?hl=all#

Seems to be presenting this number as CID: 0291916553 and there some detail of it here:

    EDIT:
    adding this link:
