Prepay meter debt
Hi,
we has our meter changed recently (just a new PP), the old one showed the total debt on the meter but the new one doesn't, is it a requirement to show the total debt ? It only shows the amount of debt from emergency credit, though there is definitely a debt on it because it takes money for it.
The new meter really sucks, it has a calculator display and only one button :rotfl:

you need the key in the meter to see the debt.
Scroll through the readings and you should find it under S i think0 -
Is that for gas or electric0

I think for both gas and elec you need the device in the meter to see the debt, this is for data protection so that only the device holder can see it.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

No it doesn't show anything with the key in. It's useless! Theres only 4 screens I think. It's for electric.0

The bit about having the key in is correct;
1. Put the key in, the screen should show 'token accepted'
2. Press the blue button like a doorbell until you reach 'Disp S' (display S) which should show a your current outstanding debt (even if you don't have one it'll show £0.00).
3. 'disp T' will show your agreed weekly recovery rate.
As electric meters recover debt little and often (rather than gas meters which take it all at once from a top-up), the exact amount is 1% of 'disp T' every 101 minutes so the figure on 'disp S' will go down every day (if you're so inclined you can look at it to check!)
If 'disp S' is currently showing £0.00 then it sounds like your debt hasn't been transferred over so you could contact your supplier to ask them to send what's remaining to the meter and reconfirm your agreed weekly payment. They're probably onto it already but you never know :-)
Was it replaced due to a fault?
I work for BG but to my knowledge all of the major suppliers use the PP meter screens in this way (apologies if they don't)0
