How Unlucky Am I??

I spent months deciding whether to opt out of my company car. I finally decided to go for it and got my shiny new car 2 weeks ago. Today, I returned to my car to find that some %$^* had backed into the front bumper meaning I now have to get it replaced and face a bill of around £300. Needless to say no-one had left a note or anything and as my excess is £250 it's not worth claiming on the insurance.

I hope the culprit feels good about it :(

Was the car left in sight of any CCTV that you may be able to see the offending car on? Where was the car left?

No CCTV around sadly. The car was parked behind a church. I can only hope "someone" up there was watching them and will punish accordingly ;)

Ah right, its a pity you cant borrow the CCTV from 'the person up there'!!.

So will this mean that you claim on your insurance or will you just get it repaired?

My excess is £250, the labour will cost around £130 plus vat and I can get a bumper from my local breakers yard for around £80 so just as well paying it myself really:mad:

I too was hit by a driver who caused significant damage to my vehicle before speeding off. The police aren't interested in anything which doesn't involve a speed camera so three weeks down the line, the chances of catching this idiot are now virtually nil.

Like you, my excess and the loss of NCB mean that I will pay more than the actual repair through future premium increases than to cough up for the repair myself, although i've also had to factor in the cost of a hire vehicle whilst my own is off the road.

Typical of this country, the honest motorist pays through he !!!!!! whilst those pillocks driving around like maniacs and probably without insurance get away with it.

I too know how you feel. I had some idiot back into my car in my office car park a couple of months ago. They came into the car park the wrong way round a one way system, dumped rubbish in a skip, backed into my car and drove off.

Place was crawling in CCTV - both in the carpark and in the surrounding area - but not one of them got a clear view of the number plate. Police weren't overly interested. Cost me £300 in insurance excess.

Been driving for nearly 10 years. Done over 200000 miles. Never had an accident (touch wood). However, twice I've had idiots crash into me and do a runner. Probably both didn't have road tax, didn't have insurance, didn't have an MOT.

First time as just after I had passed my test - crap free insurance policy that I got with the car, inexperienced driver, high annual mileage - was much cheaper for me to pay £600 for a new door, etc.

Would love to think that these people eventually get what is coming to them - but doubt it!

I slightly damaged someones colour coded bumper whilst parking (turned in too soon and scraped his bumper and put a massive dent in side of my car) and left a note. Got a phone call later that day and was told not to worry as it was only slight cosmetic damage....his car was a 55 plate....what a thoroughly nice chap........maybe I should have asked him to pay for my repairs (or would that have been cheeky, lol).

Anyway, just goes to show, sometimes if your honest it isn't always as bad as it seems.
