Barclays Partner Finance

Hi

My girlfriend bought a bed one year ago from Dreams. She used Barclays Partner Finance to pay a 1 year interest free loan on the bed. A year later and surprise surprise, we get a letter through saying she missed a couple of payments and that therefore we owe a load of interest, coming in at about another £900 (the bed was originally around £800). My girlfriend got all her statements together, and she had every standing order code for all her payments including the ones Barclays say are not there, and phoned Barclays with this information.

She phoned them twice and they said the missing payments were in some mysterious account. The second time the guy on the phone said everything was sorted and that they actually owed us a little interest. A few days later a letter comes through saying we owe them £500 odd still...

So today we phoned them a third time, they are still saying some payments are missing and that they are gonna send us out a letter with which payments are missing in order for us to send them back the standing order codes so they can get on the case. It sounds like a load of crap to me and i don't know why they could't receive the standing order codes over the phone. Maybe it's because they are due to take money out of my girlfriends account on the 19th so they might want to use the slowest communication possible (or maybe i am being cynical).

Anyway, we are being done over by Barclays and we need advice on how to stop this fast! Solicitor?

Thanks!

David

Cancel the standing order now if you can prove all payments have been made. Then send them the details they need, by recorded delivery, telling them you now consider the matter closed.

    Thanks for your reply.

What if they do what they have done so far and just ignore the letter?

If they pass us onto a credit collection agency then our credit score could be affected.

And if we have to go to court i don't think we can afford to do this :(

    thanks

Send it Special Delivery to their Head Office and follow up with a telephone call a couple of days later. They may threaten debt collection, especially if their records are incorrect, but if you have PROOF that the sums have been taken by them on time for the required number of months, don't give up.

Thanks for the responses so far.

So we are in this on our own then? There are no organisations or authorities to help us out?

    thanks

There is no standing order in place...

OP - are you 100% sure that all payments have been made to the correct account?

With interest free deals, they generally work on the basis that if the loan is not paid by the end of the interest free period then a (usually) high rate of interest will apply for the duration.

I find it strange that payment is by SO rather than DD. If it is SO, who set it up and strange that "some" payments are missing unless some were unpaid due to lack of funds or returned due to bank errors. The credit agreement will give payment amount, number of payments and dates. Yes you are pretty much on your own at this stage but if you have proof of payments I see no reason for any problems. How are they going to take money out of the account, a DD is sent from the account ?
