Holidays and credit cards

in Credit cards
Hi,
Potentially stupid question coming up!
We're due to go on holiday in October and are going on a cruise. We are intending to take some cash (euros) and will use our onboard account to pay for any other expenses on the ship to pay it off at the end of the cruise on our debit card. What I'm wondering is whether it would be better to get a credit card? Would it offer us any more protection if my purse was stolen, for example; would the exchange rate be better?! We have the spending money saved up so don't need the credit a credit card would give us but I have a nagging voice in my head saying I should get one. Should I ignore the voice or listen to it?!
Sorry if these are really daft questions!
