Some help please.

I am helping a friend to leave Staywarm and join EDF - his savings will be substantial. He is committed and Staywarm know he is going.

SW have this peculiar charging system that I know very little about. They apparently charge a monthly global figure for the two fuels. My friend has a date for the transfer of his electric but not so far for his gas.

Just how do SW separate their electric and gas charge from each other to take this into account? I imagine they feel entitled to charge up the date of change-over for their service - which is perfectly OK - but how do they deal with this scenario?

Any actual experiences welcomed!

  • I know of someone who phoned staywarm and told them that she was leaving due to price increases. They asked her a few standard questions such as who she was considering etc. They reviewed her usage for the previous year and agreed a lower amount to pay.

Try this first or as it too late?? LOL

Too late but thanks for the idea (the saving is so much, I doubt if SW would have gone that far anyway!

Absolute rubbish that mate... Stay warm is not consumption based. it is worked out by how many people are in your home and how may bedrooms you have!!! And the area you live in.consumption does not come into effect unless she is a high user...where she will have had a visit and given 12 months to reduce figure before any increase!!!

if you are going to post information at least make sure it is credible

I can assure you this is fact!

The reason they took consumption in to account was due to the fact that she was using a low amount of energy. She was therefore working out cheaper to go with another supplier. anyhow, the pertinent part of my post was the fact that they agreed to lower their direct debit in order to keep her as a customer.

I can only go by what my friend told me, She may have been told that they were looking at her sonsumption or even simply mentioned it and she took it as they were changing her price due to her low consumption???? You are in a better position than I to comment on that!

I do know that her DD has been reduced though as I have seen her bank statement showing this.

Perhaps she was transferred by Powergen from the Staywarm scheme to one of its regular tariffs. The amount she is now paying could be the estimated monthly direct debit - there could be a nasty surprise when the annual review is due and her actual consumption and the effect of price increases is brought into consideration. Some of Powergen's regular tariffs are cheaper than Staywarm, but you loose the price certainty.
