Buying a large flatscreen monitor - best value?

HI, My OH and I want to get a large (at least 19in) flatscreen monitor for our business. Our current screen is way too small to do proper magazine layout. Does anyone have any reccomendations for best resolution/value? We will hopefully have about £150-£200 to spend.

Thanks
Sarah

I've had a videoseven 15" TFT for 3 years and found it excellent. Came across this the other day when searching for something else. Has excellent customer feedback and really good news is it's just under £120.

Thanks. I've never heard of Videoseven before and am always slightly wary of electronics brands I've never encountered - but the reviews there do seem positive. Would you say they'd be good enough quality for detailed graphics work on magazines?

I'm not a technophobe sarahs but more a technumptyhead so I couldn't really advise on whether or not a particular screen would be good for detailed graphics work on magazines. Given your present screen isn't big enough what else does it lack for graphics? My smaller V7 has excellent general image qualities for wp, personal photo editing, surfing, playing videos etc but can't really say whether it would suit your needs.

If you can squeeze an extra £27 the Belinea 10 19 20 is very good value for money. One of the top all round monitors.

Be careful not to confuse cheap and good value. The Belinea may be more expensive than some other 19" TFT's about but it offers good response time, a very wide viewing angle, accurate colours, and an affordable price.

Given the choise I'd probably go for the Samsun 970P but it's over £300, in which case I'd just get a 20" screen.

Or possibly the ViewSonic VX924. It's around £225 too but generally aimed at gamer's more than your average user.

  • i use a 21" crt running at 1600 x 1200 which i would have thought is the min you need to avoid lots of zooming in and out.

I've looked at lcd but none of the 19" ones go up to 1600 x 1200. You really need to go to 20 or 21", i think dell do one for £300 ish.

CRT are cheaper at this level but I'm sure the LCD will come down in time

Yeah for a TFT to acheive 1600x1200 you need a 20" or 21" panel. A 19" TFT will run at the same resolution (1280x1024) as a 17" TFT.

I've seen a 20" Philips that I might go for. It's about £280 and is said to use the same panel as the equivalent Dell's (which are over £300). The Dell panels are very highly rated. I'll see if I can find out the tft and post a link to somewhere selling it.

    Not with a bargepole.

I'm still sitting with a Video Seven monitor that doesn't work after it failed their warranty process ( replaced twice )
