Not going to get any better than this am I?

Our Bulgaria trip (although 17 years ago) was less than successful. An argument with the travel agents and tour operators told us that what you deem to be 2* in this country is not the same as 2* in theirs. 2* equated pretty much to flea pit but to be fair standards may have improved!

The food we had was diabolical and you had to order what you wanted a day in advance. It was weird the choice we had, the one thing that stticks out was fired eggs. Hubby ordered them one day and that was all he got, 2 fried eggs on a plate and this wasnt breakfast but dinner.

We had little hot water as despite being a large hotel who should have been geared up for it, if you went up to shower late after a day on the beach or by the pool the hot water had run out.

The child friendly hotel had 2 sets of about 20 stairs down to ground floor but then you had to go up another 2 sets to get to the restaurant as there was no direct way across. The pool around had huge gaps in the concrete walls that had been fixed with barbed wire so you had to keep a very close eye on your child (which I would do anyway) as wild dogs were roaming outside.

I personally would choose a cheap Spanish one because at least they've been doing it long enough to get it right.

We have just returned from an absolute nightmare holiday booked through Balken Holidays via Thomas Cook - Lincoln. That place is just vile from start to finish. We booked 2 weeks all inclusive for a family of four and began our complaint from virtually arrival, filthy dirty, uncooked food (blood red chicken), rude staff, The place is actually a hostel for polish/Romanian kids who run riot, urinated onto our balcony, threw used condoms etc etc. We moved hotel (at our cost) with many other Brits after 3 days of this hell.

Heading into Thomas Cook this morning with a list and photographs to play un-merry hell

hi , we went to bulgaria last year and we hired a 4 bed villa with private pool hired a car and had flights for just slightly more than you stated , obviously we didnt have food included but food in bulgaria is erm interesting ! we found some great places to go eat and the restaurants are cheap in the city bit more along the beach fronts etc but even they are cheaper than spain etc . the standard of the villa was great and having a private pool was fantastic for my small kids . Just something for you to consider really as 2 star in bulgaria would not be great whatever start they say it is knock it down at least 1 imo . Great place to go though , if you stop near varna go to varna park we had lots of happy hours there.

we stayed in sunny beach about 4 years ago at a 4 star and we all got food poisoning so be carefull what you eat the place is lovely though

:beer: Just a quick update on our plight, have now received compensation to the tune of over two thirds of the cost of our holiday in cash :j that makes it a damn cheap two weeks all inclusive in the sun even if many element of it were somewhat unpleasent at the time.

All in all REEEESULT!!!!!
