National Express coach, split open return ticket

I think I have made an innocent mistake. I bought open day return for 3 adults, not poundering it hard enough that it may not offer the option of one of the passengers probably having a different return date.

The depature is fine, all 3 passengers would be travelling together. But on the return journey, only 2 of them would travel together.

There is no specific details or instructions on the ticket buying screen. I am a bit crossed as it only asked "How many adults are travelling", it didn't mention they have to travel together on open returns, which it certainly assumes so.

Or does it?

I can't believe they charge £5 per passenger to cancel or amend tickets, and you can't just cancel 1 adult off the tickets. I just ordered it and I thought it's required by law to do full refund on a cooling period?

I thought they would be more like air tickets where individual passengers are independent.

Thanks for any insights
