Halifax current account

ok went to the bank today and put in £180 as the halifax had sent me a letter saying i was overdrawn....they took !!!!! £150 for fees and im still overdrawn and now have no money to cover my bills :mad: can they really do this :-( please help

Simply put, yes they can. When you signed up to the account you agreed with all the relevant fees and charges that may be applied in situations like this.0

Banks have a unique 'first charge' ability. Simply, when you owe the bank money rather than them sending you a bill like everyone else has to, they can simply take what they are owed from your balance.
There is a mechanism by which you can obtain 'first charge' over credited funds in cases of hardship e.g. revoke that right. However you'll need to do a bit of research on exactly what letter you need to send them to obtain that.0 -

You can check your balance at an ATM. Better still, register for online banking.0
