Hi, just up after night shift, some interesting posts, except the 'responsibility of having a house/flat' anyway. For reference the meter was changed 4 years ago and checked by BG a year or so ago. I have never had any late bill payment or payment issues. The majority of posts seem to think that the meters are the best thing. I do disagree and posts stating I am 'fiddling' or ' awkward' are unfair. You like and I do not, this does not give any of you the right to dismiss my opinion, as most of you have. I did post for advice however all I have received is crap so I have wasted enough time, thanks for the few interesting and informative comments.
I think peoples issue was 'why would you not want the meter changed?', over the next few years everyones meter will be changed regardless of age for the benefit of everyone except the meter readers.

No one has stated you are fiddling the meter.

I think the vast majority of people think you are just being awkward as you've not given a decent reason why you don't want the change.

I think that the either the op or the landlord believe that they are trying to install a pre-payment meter.

From what I remember of my brief stint working for a utility company, meters must be changed every ten years. Mine has just been done. It's not a smart meter but it's much easier to read than the last so I was happy enough.
My electric meter was changed to a digital in 2008 replacing an analogue meter with odometer display installed when the house was built in 1985.

I had that thought too. In some areas of the country electricity meters used to be known as smart card meters so the OP may be getting confused with those.

from what I understand all homes will eventually have a smart meter under goverment policy by 2020 and it your supplier's resonsibility to do this for both gas and electric so looks like it is not really an option to decline,

BG, Npower and Edf are already doing this and as we all have to have them by the end of 2020 the other companies will no doubt be starting this too
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.

I woulddn't worry about it - BG wrote to me three years ago to tell me that they were coming to change the electricity meter.

I've had these letters periodically ever since. No-one actually turns up to do the job......

Fortunately I don't work, or I'd be flippin livid about having to take time off work. As it is, the meter does it's job (it's still the old analogue one) but once smart meters become the norm, I will be more proactive at getting them to change the meter as that seems to me to be the way to go.

Hi, well I am so glad that you can't see a reason !
It is my choice, not yours.
I do not have estimated bills as I give accurate readings.

... and I'm glad that you are glad that we can't see a reason

as you came here presumably looking for help/advise, perhaps you would care to share with us any reason you may have for not wanting a new meter installed?

    Let's hope it's has a little more basis than 'because I don't'.

If you would care to divulge the reason, perhaps you'll receive some help/advice tailored to your needs?
