Instant Transfers Banks!

Ok, so im kind of confused some banks like HBOS and LLoyds you can transfer money instantly and especially from HBOS to another HBOS account...

however Santander to santander takes 4 days!! Is this correct?

Also, is there a way to speed up a payment?

Cheers

  • I don't see how or why transfers within the same bank should take 4 days, that said, that doesn't mean your theory isn't true - you're correct about HBOS though, it is immediate.

There's a limit on amounts for faster payments with most banks. For instance you could make a payment of £100 and see it arrive immediately, then do another one for £2000 and find it goes as a BACS payment and takes 3 days so the bank can make money on your money during that time.

You can do a CHAPS transfer with the bank which is same day although there's a charge for that.

Santander don't do faster payments online, even between their own accounts AFAIK, which is really pretty ridiculous. By phone you can do a FP of up to £100. I read somewhere they'll start to do them sometime this year, but don't hold your breath.

So why stay with them if they're not offering basic baking facilities? There are lots of banks competing for your custom?

Well they were offering a pretty package to sign on with them... and I thought hrmmm why not. I didn't ask if they had that facility or not.. I really didn't think it WASN'T standard...

OnceuponaDream- Yeah i find i can do that no problem.. But lets say I wanted to give you money it takes 4 days even though we are BOTH with the same bank
  • Allowing people to being able to use Debit Cards and Access Money from ATM's seems to have been an issue for Santander to what I remember reading on at least two occasions.

Faster Payments Online to other accounts with Santander and or even other Bank Accounts.. Well, think you are pushing ya luck with this one! :D
