PC World laptop awful trackpad - chances of refund?

Hi all,
Today I purchased a shiny new laptop from PC World running Windows 7 etc. I only went there because with Quidco it was the cheapest option.
Anyway, I've spent the afternoon playing around with it and I've decided I actually cannot stand the thing. It is mostly fine, but the trackpad is poor to the point of unusable. Issues are: it will regularly freeze for a second if I try to move the mouse after typing for a while (trust me, more annoying than it might sound) and the scrolling is all over the place, not at all smooth and massively over sensitive so it jumps around (though the normal usage is not oversensitive).
To be fair, I've been spoiled in the past with a huge Apple trackpad, but that doesn't change the fact that I just can't stand this. I was unable to test it in store as their demo model was not working.
So: what should I do? Their 28 day returns policy requires items to be unopened, though are they likely to mind if it is literally next day (and all re-installed)? Can I argue that this is a fault? Should I just really pettily find as many small problems as I can as soon as possible? I'd like a refund, rather than a replacement or exchange, to be honest.
Any and all advice welcome and appreciated.
Dom
P.S. It took three tries to find the submit post button using the scrolling functionality of the trackpad just then...
