Tips on Supermarket shopping!

Hi
I was wondering if someone could give me some tips. OH and I have decided that we are going to spend £40 a week on food/toilitries and dog food. This is for 2 adults and 1 large dog.
I am currently following the WW plan----and therefore have to get certain low fat foods etc and foods with calories on so that I can work out the points value(such a hassle but the only thing that works for me is WW!!).
I would like to shop at Lidl this week but not sure if they have low fat version of things plus do they have the calorie/fat content values on items?
Do you think it will be possible to get a full weeks shopping for that amount?
Thanks for any advice/tips

    Definately.

Lets be honest, many many foods on WW are nil points ie veg. Lidl usually have a hlaf price on fruit & veg offer running all the time, so theres a moneysaving start. Cottage cheese adn stuff liike that will all be there at lidl

It really does depend on what sort of things you eat on WW.

MAybe you might want to consider Mrs Ts as well for those low fat things that lidl doesnt provide

And be careful round lidls as there are shed loads of biscuits etc at bargain pices, run past them !

And dont forget to take your own carrier bags :)
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

My OH went to our local market this week about 4pm ish and for £6 picked up so many melons, bananas, peaches, kiwis, plums and mangos that he could hardly move! Fruit is pretty obvious choice for WW, can make lovely smoothies and indulge your sweet tooth. DO the market run! Sure it would work for veg too.

If you are signed up to WW online you can work out the 'points' in all Lidl food on the online calculator, as the products have the calories and fat etc on them, usually.

They def. do cottage cheese and low fat yogurt. As a veggie I wouldn't really get diet food there tho... good for carnivores tho, lots of nice fish, chicken etc.

For veggies it's farmfoods for quorn stuff, cheap as chips.

  • You will be able to get the food for the £40.00 budget, I'm not sure if Lidl has the calorie/fat content on their items, they didn't list it a while ago, it was quite frustrating. It will be good for fruit/veg/bread and dairy items.

Do you have a WW shopping guide? if not, it is worth investing in one.....it tells you the points value in the supermarket's own brand stuff, which almost always is cheaper than WW's own make.

I tend to buy plenty of veg. My speciality is pasta, tinned toms and lots and lots of veg - all probably available at Lidl.....I make a big pan of it and freeze portions, and that is my lunch at work sorted out for the whole week!

    Good luck on your budget!

    I wish! ;)

Reigonal offers vary, so check the website for the offers in your area. Definitely worth a visit though, offers or no offers.

Some of the low-fat yogurts in lidl don't have calorie/fat content on them, but to be honest, low fat yogurt is low fat yogurt - they don't have any artificially sweetened ones (like mullerlight - currently BOGOF in sainsburys) so they're bound to be a bit higher than those.

Compare supermarket prices and Mad about bargains are good for comparing prices/offers etc. I no longer bother with fixture ferrets since they started charging.

Stay away from pre-packed WW food, they are a total rip off. Check out the Old style board for some ww and low-fat recipes (just do a search) as there's plenty in there that should help you out.

    Hi
Thanks. I have a WW calculator to work out the points values but I have never shopped at Lidl and wasnt sure if it had the calorie/fat value on the items.
I think i will give it a try tomorrow----I am taking out £40 and sticking too it!! I usually go to Morrisons and spend a lot more than £40----I am hoping i can stick to this amount and use the savings i make to go towards paying off the rest of my debts!!
Usually on pay day(tomorrow) we go out and do a huge shop
and then end up wasting sooo much.
    Thanks for all the tips

Morrisons is good for BOGOF's, but this can mean you end up buying stuff you never needed in the first place! Might be worth switching to Asda for cheaper all-round prices.

    Remember - it ain't a bargain if you don't need it! ;)
