I have an Alliance and Leicester account and want to get the Santander Zero card that offers 0% fee balance transfers for Santander and A&L customers. On the online application it said "Do you currently have a Santander account?" and because A&L still isn't technically Santander yet, I answered No.

Do anyone have any experience with this application? Was I right to tick No? I requested a BT on the application and I'm worried that it might not go through as 0% fee.

Also, how long do their applications take?

A&L was legally merged into Santander last Friday.

I did this a few weeks ago, and it took just over a month for it all to go through, which I thought was a long time, but I did call them after 2 weeks and was told it had all been approved and they were just waiting for a letter to go out to me which I then had to sign and return.

    hope that helps

  • Hi had my application turned down for the Zero card, and I am an alliance leicester customer, however didn't realise there was a link through from the internet banking site. Not sure if they realised I was a customer.

Any recommendations on the letter, as I need an £1800 BT, with reasonable credit history. Aqua are screwing me at 30%.

I have put one together, do you think I should post it on this site (minus personal details) for peeps to ponder?

Careful: they sent me four identical letters, spaced a week or two apart, asking for that letter to be returned, even though I had already taken my proof of ID into a branch and had them take copies. When I phoned them, they said they were having computer trouble and that all was OK. When I asked again later, they said my application had expired and I had to apply again ("computer says no"). Including the intial strangely long wait after I'd been told my application was provisionally accepted, it took them between two or three months to fully complete the whole long, complicated screwup.

Enough to make you suspect they're rowing back on this product -- perhaps it has been too successful amongst the wrong crowd, who always pay off their debt in full every month (users of this website, for example)?

    UPDATE

I got declined. I'm pretty sure it is because I said I wasn't a Santander account holder - Apparently they only accept online applications from account holders. How do I appeal the decision?
