well done its great but have you tried doing this sort of time outside running!! big difference but feel better for it!0

Thats a very impressive time for someone your age. Well done.
I can just get under 48 minutes (47:50) so do fully appreciate the effort required and the sense of achievement it brings. It puts it into context when you see them on telly completing 10k in 28 minutes or so, which means they are running at over 20 kph for the duration, which is faster than I can sprint!
I prefer running on the treadmill - I go at a constant measured pace without having to stop for traffic or be chased by dogs, its better on my knees and I can put the music on. If something attractive and scantily clad starts running on the adjacent treadmill, even better.0 -
Well done, sounds as if you've made sensible lifestyle changes that you can maintain - that's the best way to lose weight in the long term
and congrats on the running times!

I love running on a beach and really enjoy the Race for Life. Maybe you could try this Martin for a change - the sand is a bit softer on your joints than pounding the pavement.
However, when I did the RFL in Darlington it is over fields and it was just like the hard slog of Cross Country - didn't enjoy it at all.

When I used to go to the gym I'd work out the powers of 2 (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, etc) in my head and see how far I could get. Only sometimes did I realise that I'd slowed down peddalling because I was concentrating on doubling some big number! Again, a reason for a treadmill where you can't slow down accidentally...0 -
I make Martin's avg speed about 13.163km/h. I assume he doesn't stick to one speed but runs faster and then jogs, otherwise it'd be a round-ish number.
One thing I really regret is that they don't teach people how to run in school. Running is the basis for a lot of things, football and rugby for example. In my school at least we were never trained to run and I assume the same is true in most schools. I remember running 400m for a sports day (or "training session") and pretty much everyone burst into a run from the start and got knackered and walked the rest of the way. We had no idea about pacing nor warming up. I only discovered recently that you get out of breath quickly if you run without a warm up, I was under the impression that warming up was for your legs muscles not heart and lungs
If I had the power I'd make PE teachers teach kids how to run and exercise properly. I'd give the people like Martin (and myself) extra lessons/homework, after all if you're struggling in maths you get extra help or lessons tailored to your needs so why not exercise?
I think most people prefer treadmills but I do find it hard. I almost tripped one time when I was looking at the tv's, it seems that if I don't keep an eye on my feet they go all over the place. On top of that, it's very hard to run and drink at the same time, I have to slow down to walking pace, mainly because you can't look at your feet and drink!I'm doing hundred push-ups program, will do couch 2 5k in a week or two... Love the apps, but you can do it for free, too. Martin, obviously your glory reaches Macedonia, too
The sites are hundredpushups DOT com and c25k DOT com
Credit where it's due, "couch to 5k" was created by coolrunning.com though that site is pretty open about it0 -
Well done on your time, waaay faster than me!
I too have come to running late.
Here's a MSE tip, check out http://www.parkrun.com it's a completely free timed 5k run every Saturday morning up and down the country. It's very professionally run and has all the stats you could possibly wish for.
I really look forward to the friendly crowd ranging from club runners to dads pushing prams.

Well done Martin. I do however go with the majority get yourself outside and run, so much more to aim for.
You could make a feature about how to get the best kit for running in an MSE way while advertising free fitness
For distance if you already have an iPod get a Nike+ to measure speed and distance. Also make sure you have the right trainers to suit your run style, helps prevent injury.
You have such a good influence over people why not set some kind of excercise challenge. Will we see you at the Scottish (Glasgow) half Marathon in September?New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0 -

I can't imagine _anyone_ has all the stats he could possibly wish for.0 -
Well done!
Like you I just started running for the 1st time since I was 12 I'm now 47. I got starnded in Spain during the Volcanic Ash Disruption and got a bit bored so started running a few KM on the beach each day building up to about 6K. I got home managed 10K on the treadmill in 50 minutes, I have since ran 10K races with my time being around 47 minutes. I now plan to try a half-marathon over the coming weeks.
I could have never imagined me doing this 2 months ago, I feel a lot better for it and have lost a stone.
I wouldn't mind getting one of these sat-nav things that runners use to measure distance and pace, so if anybody knows where to get one cheap please post0
