Remote access Linux server, with GUI in M$ XP, for configuration of user access and permissions, AD, server, storage, network resources configuration etc. etc.
Anybody done this?
Is there a program available?
Or GUI that uses SSH in XP.
PuTTY, TTSSH.
I would like to access and configure the server without having to type in pages and pages of commands....
Just lazy realy....:P

Not completely sure what your needs are....
But you can use putty from WinXP.
Or, if you want to control a Linux server using graphical tools, how about www.webmin.com?Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -

You lost me already in your first "sentence". Can you write in English what OS is the server you want to access and what OS is the client you want to connect from?
If you want to access your linux server from a XP PC, install Webmin on the Linux server. If you don't want to open the Webmin port to the Internet, you could tunnel the connection through SSH.0 -
"Webmin"(http://www.webmin.com/) is your best bet.
It will allow you to control your server remotely.Laters

Thanks......:D
Been looking at this, and it seems that to run correctly it needs Pearl installed, now call me a synic but Actives business package is more expensive than a copy of M$ Server 2003......:(
So therefore, wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a copy of Server 2003???To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0 -
Perl is free.0

Perl is usually installed by default in Linux and Mac systems
Perl is open source Software and is free.
You can download Perl here:
http://www.perl.com/download.csp
With "WebMin" you install it on the machine you wish to control (i.e. the Linux remote server) and access it via the web (You set up a user access password). so you don't need any additional "Microsoft servers"Laters

If you install Webmin from the repositories, it should install Perl (not Pearl;)) automatically. This way it also gets updated whenever you run all your other updates with apt-get or yum.
http://www.webmin.com/deb.html
http://www.webmin.com/rpm.htmlUsing the Webmin APT repository
If you like to install and update Webmin via APT, edit the /etc/apt/sources.list file on your system and add the line :
deb http://download.webmin.com/download/repository sarge contrib
You should also fetch and install my GPG key with which the repository is signed, with the commands :
cd /root
wget http://www.webmin.com/jcameron-key.asc
apt-key add jcameron-key.asc
You will now be able to install with the commands :
apt-get update
apt-get install webmin
All dependencies should be resolved automatically.Using the Webmin YUM repository
If you like to install and update Webmin via RPM, create the /etc/yum.repos.d/webmin.repo file containing :
[Webmin]
name=Webmin Distribution Neutral
baseurl=http://download.webmin.com/download/yum
enabled=1
You should also fetch and install my GPG key with which the packages are signed, with the command :
rpm --import http://www.webmin.com/jcameron-key.asc
You will now be able to install with the command :
yum install webmin
All dependencies should be resolved automatically.0
