I stayed at its sister hotel el dorado royale 2 years ago. I stayed in a casita suite (for my honeymoon) and really liked it. The staff were friendly, the room was great and I liked the choice of restaurants. I definately missed the resort on the all day trip to Chichen Itza. El dorado royale was very big and I get the impression that Seaside Suites has a bit more of an intimate feel.
I'm hoping to return to Mexico next year, this time in a regular room. From lots of research on tripadvisor I am considering going to either Excellence Riviera Cancun or Excellence Playa Mujeres (the newer hotel in that chain). They are both adults only. I get the impression that the service and quality of the food is better at these resorts (although I did like the food at el dorado royale). However, the one complaint I have seen about these resorts is that the bathroom seems to be slightly open plan (ie no door to bathroom, and the door to the toilet is not floor to ceiling so sound may travel into the room). One thing that appeals to me is that they have a special box that can be used to leave room service in so that you do not have to answer the door. I've also heard good things about the secrets resorts.
The forums on tripadvisor are a good place to get more info. I would also compare travellers' photos for the different resorts you are looking at.0 -
Hi, It may be too late however me and my husband went to the seaside suites last year and loved it. We stayed in the swim up rooms and the extra cost was well worth it. The restaurants are really good and there is plenty of choice.
We are thinking of going back again this year.0 -
Hi
I've stayed at EDSS last year. It was good, however at the time we went there were lots of complaints on TA about the food not being up to scratch just before we were due to travel. We had already booked but went along anyway, and it was abit hit and miss on the food front but recently the reviews of EDSS have been much better, maybe they've changed staff/chefs.
There were lots I loved about the hotel but I did not enjoy the 3hr transfer there, which should have been only 1hr20mins.
I think EDR which is a sister hotel is worth considering from the reviews, but if you can the Excellence ones are really well considered and we'll look at these next time. Also the Secrets/ Dreams hotels get good reviews as another Op has mentioned.

I am looking at booking here for next april. It looks awesome and the reviews are fab. I would like a sea view room but on some reviews it says that the palm trees get in the way of the sea view, so am thinking the extra £224 may not be worht it.0

Yes there were huge palm trees and that's all you could see, lots of people mentioned that when we were there - we didn't get a sea view room as we are out all the time but some people who did pay did complain that they didn't get to see any of the sea! This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
