Why don't you ask the french passport office, and the Irish and British consulate how long and how much to sort it.

Do you need to renew it while abroad or can you wait till you get home

Have you checked the foreign office website?

You don't need to do anything, as long as you have the passport then she'll be allowed back into the UK.

    Hi,
I know that at the minute there is a 6 week min wait for Irish passorts ( due to a backlog ),
but in an emergency they can fast track an application, I would guess that being stuck abroad with an expired passport may qualify.
However as adouglasmhor said, you really need to contact the Irish embassy/consulate for accurate and up to date information.
Hope you get it sorted out!
