I tried with both Firefox and IE and only get the front page. It says to click on the menu bar at the top to see the articles but the isn't one. Perhaps it's just me - is everyone else seeing a menu bar?0
-
No, I couldn't see a menu bar either, but if you click on the stooze calculator at the side it takes you to what I had assumed was the rest of the site.
I'm a bit confused, because it says 'welcome to what'sthecost.com' but the address bar still says, 'www.stoozing.com', which is strange.
I tried with IE and Firefox as well.
One of those 'under construction' issues?

Those are external links to other web sites "what's the cost" and Experian. It looks like the internal links aren't working yet. Glad it's not just me anyway.0

I recently applied for a MBNA card on the basis that you said there was no transfer fee, and when I got the terms and conditions sent to me (I did an on-line application), It stated there was a fee. When I rang them to question this, they told me that there was indeed a transfer fee.
Is it worth chasing this ? I am probably too late, as I needed to "tart" my other balance so I didn't get charged interest on that one. I will have "saved money" but as you always say Martin if you can save money, its best to save as much as possible.

Remember to write to the credit card company closing the account once the balance has been cleared. That way you can apply at a later date to the same company should they have further attractive offers.
I believe you have to wait 6 months before applying once the account is closed.
Also when balance transferring particularly to 0% deal destroy, the credit card so you will not be tempted to spend.

I you read Martin's article again you will see he does warn you about transfer fees:rubix_76 wrote:Martin

If you request it on your application, or when they send you the credit agreement to sign then it is free. Once the card is set up you will be charged. The amount varies depending on which MBNA card you have. Virgin is the only MBNA exception - they won't charge you throughout the 0% period although many call centre staff don't seem to be aware of the fact.Occasionally fees are charged for Super BTs & cheques, though none of the above do so during the 0% intro period (for Virgin, Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and MBNA to ensure it's fee free do the transfer at application).0 -
Reaper,
I did what you said, enclosing the transfer details when I sent back the agreement, but before I sent it, I rang them asking if there was a fee, becuase their t's and C's weren't clear if there was a fee. They said there was a fee, so as I had appled for the card I went ahead anyway as I needed to transfer the balance to avoid paying interest on the other card (being tranfered from).
Has anyone else been coaught out on this ?

Reaper,
I have just spoken to the nice people at MBNA, and as I was insistent that I should have not been charged the fee, they looked into it, and it goes like this :
I applied for a card (online) and included some BT's in the application. The balances I included were greater than the credit limit they then gave me. When I asked them if there was a fee, I was told there was, so I just went ahead with the lower transfer on the phone. When I rang them again, saying "Martin Lewis says ...." they then looked into it, and said becase I did a "second transfer" even thought the original transfer was cancelled, I was charged.
I told them I hadn't even had the card and the "new" transfer was done in the envelope that I included with the signed Ts and Cs. Because it was my first transfer they have refunded me the fee.
Thanks for all your help.

As you can see, most the people on his board have a better understanding than the MBNA staff!
Doesn't make it any easier to argue the toss though...0 -
Glad you got it sorted, rubix. It does highlight a problem that when you first apply you don't know what credit limit you will get, this makes it hard to ask for the right balance transfer amount.
For this reason when I applied I waited until I got the credit agreement to sign as they also tell you your credit limit. I then used the envelope slip to request the BT when I returned it.
However you do it MBNA are known for their inconsistent BT charges and phone calls to get the charge lifted are common.0
