Good restaurants

Thought it'd be nice to have a thread recommending restaurants in Wales.
I went to a great little restaurant in Porthcawl called La Rochelle the other week - it was £6 odd for a 2 course lunch, and everything the six of us who went ate was utterly fantastic. It looks a lot like a pub, but the atmosphere is great. It's quite easy to find - it's down the side street opposite Woolworths, is on the end terrace, and it's pink!

Good idea! The pearl of the orient inthe bay (chinese) is lovely for a special meal, as is the happy gathering in Canton (also chinese!). Zushi under the AA buildings in town (sorry Cardiff!!) has a conveyor belt of sushi - fun & yummy & there are cooked options if not quite brave enough - but raw tuna is delicious! All I need now is some dosh!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

My favourites for Cardiff:
Breakfast / Lunch - Saffron Cafe (Cowbridge Road East, Canton)
Chinese - The Happy Gathering (Cowbridge Road East, Canton)
Indian - Jinuk (Cowbridge Road East, Canton)
Good Value, Great Meals:
These 2 pub type restaurants are near each other in Thornhill on Thornhill Road towards the end.
Fynnon Wen - more posh restaurant more than a pub, quite fancy selection of foods and always unusual and many choices of daily specials. Does things like swordfish as well as the standard pub fare and other specialities.
If you keep going up the road from the Fynnon Wen, about 3 minutes drive, I can't remember the name of it (sorry) but theres a second bar/restaurant that has a kids play ground out front and a kids play bit upstairs. It's more a family bar, and does huge portions of really nice, but fairly standard pub meals.
Both of these restaurants are BOGOF on all meals, all day.... and usually cost from £6-12 - and you get TWO!!0 -
another couple of Cardiff thumbs up, both in Whitchurch Rd!
Little Lanterns (chinese)
and
Panama (Indian)
great food served at both (good vegetarian options) and restaurant quality on their takeaways0 -
I agree with some of the posts here but for the best chinese in Cardiff it has to be the Riverside on Tudor Road (great dim sum on a Sunday as well). I know a lot of people like the HG but the majority of chinese people eat in the Riverside which obviously says something.
Oh - another one seconding Jinuk.You laugh because I'm different - I laugh because you're all the same0 -
If you are visiting Carmarthen in West Wales I can highly reccommend the Quayside Brasserie. They use locally sourced ingredients and the menu is really imaginative.
Plantaganets in Tenby is great for seafood, so is Hansons in Swansea (or was, not eaten there for a while as economising)
Bwytwch yn dda.

Couldn't agree more! I live directly opposite the little lanterns, and they are great in there, always willing to change the set menus slightly if we want something different. And Panama is great because you get 15% discount for takeaway. and a further 10% for student discount! Yans Fish and Chip bar on Whitchurch Road is one of best in Cardiff too.0 -
