Washing Machine

We bought a washing machine from Currys in late December. So it is almost 6 months old. It has started leaking and will not go through a full cycle... I don't believe it's anything on our part. Would I just take it back to Currys? It has a parts warranty with it for 3 years also from what it says in the manual, but I imagine I would have to have a domestic appliance repairer to pay for then...

It's such a heavy thing to move around...

I wouldn't "take it back" to Currys but would definitely phone Currys to arrange a repair

    Where is it leaking from?

From the back of the washing machine. Why?

Will have to get receipt. In-laws put some money towards it, and went out to buy it [as they have the transport]...so should have the receipt.

Not that I know of. But, my partner is trained in basic plumbing, part of his work involves fitting kitchens and bathrooms. So I assume he would have gone down that avenue, I think it's more leaking from underneath the washing machine itself.

It has done it previously, a couple of months in to having it. My partner disconnected it and took it outside, then brought it back in gain and it worked fine. He's not taken it outside this time, but I do believe he disconnected and reconnected it... [not entirely sure on that]...
  • Sounds more like poor fitting than faulty.
These "semi trained" plumbers for bathroom fitters etc are notorious for being crap.

It will also have a full 1-year warranty during which you won't have to pay for the labour and call-out. Unless there's no fault with the machine.

No. I am quite sure it is not the pipes [connections], as unlike most washing machines this is not under a worktop and pushed right to the back. You can clearly see the pipe connecting the washing machine, and the waste pipe, the water is coming from underneath it. Also the washing machine is refusing to spin or do anything, even though it fills up fine. [It's when you make it drain it leaks].

My partner mainly uses CNC - fabricates stone worktops for a big kitchen company, so it's not really his trade, but he started an apprentice with the plumber for the same kitchen company when he has no jobs on... So, I knew he would have checked the pipe connections, that is all I was trying to say...I am not making him thee expert...And I think most people fit their own washing machines anyway, don't they? As it's quite straightforward.

I'm off to ring Currys now, and then Indesit*... see where it gets me. It's just cheaper to ring Currys. Anyone know any good numbers to ring for Indesit*?

Shouldn't be a problem. Curry's will pass you over to the manufacturers helpline. Yes, you could insist they deal with it for you, but in reality just call up the helpline and they'll send someone out to fix it.

Washing machines failing after 6 months isn't unusual. We have one, that's 11 months old now, it has failed twice, once a couple of months ago and again a couple of days ago.

They are the one product where the extended warranties are worthwhile having!
