Seems pretty obvious to me that you don't pull off until a pedestrian is safely on the other side.
Then they are fair game?, but seriousley, not talking about what seems obvious to you, but what is actually written down. :T:TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

It isn't. As usual, the highway code is the briefest of summaries of the law into which the DSA have tried to cram in the most information in the fewest words. All the highway code says is to "give way" to the pedestrian, but without qualifying what this actually means in all possible circumstances.cyclonebri1 wrote: »Into context, I had an argument with someone. He said it is against the HC to pass behind pedestrians, ie ,before they have cleared the crossing. I don't think it is. ??????
If you offer your own definition of "give way", then you would win your argument as you have technically "given way", then driven off.0 -

So parallel with it. As long as cars don't approach from the bottom of the picture, they get what they deserve. I wouldn't exactly stop at the crossing either.Deleted_User wrote: »To the other side of the road which has the Zebra Crossing.0 -
That bloke in red - seen him a few times on Crimewatch. Crosses in front of you then runs backwards into your car when you think he's crossed..0

Is it legit to drive off, if at a zebra, the pedestrian has passed the "halfway" mark? or similarly has done the same under a flashing amber at a pelican? Any reference to qualify that in the HC appreciated.
Did you pass a driving test? What did they tell you when you took your lessons?0 -
I never proceed over a crossing until the pedestrian has cleared it completely.0

Yes I passed driving test, bike and car around 39 years ago. I also bought a current copy of the HC very recently to ensure I was up to speed. Could not find anything to contradict what I was taught.Try and be smart if you want, the question has been answered. I was taught that when the ped had crossed infront of me I could continue, after giving way, even if he/she had not absolutely cleared the crossing. The highway code also stated at that time that you had to give way to a ped on a crossing, "uncontrolled", only if they placed 1 foot on the crossing, no mention of that in todays version for obvious reasons. :beer:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

From the Highway Code
196 Signal-controlled crossings
Pelican crossings. These are signal-controlled crossings where flashing amber follows the red ‘Stop’ light. You MUST stop when the red light shows. When the amber light is flashing, you MUST give way to any pedestrians on the crossing. If the amber light is flashing and there are no pedestrians on the crossing, you may proceed with caution.
Which would seem to confirm the situation for a Pelican crossing0
