Can I receive anything?

Hello, I am starting university in september, I left school in november once I had my place. Since then I have had 2 jobs and recently got fired, I was wondering if I could claim any sort of benefits till I find another job or till uni starts. I am 18 and this is in scotland. My friends who stayed on at school are still receving child benefits until uni starts however mines got canceled once I got a job.

The benefit system works by deciding at what point you stop being a child dependent in your parents financial household and instead are an independent financial entity. There is no point at which you are neither and 3 months is a long time without income from one or the other.

Either you can claim JSA until Uni starts or you are still financially dependent on your parents (they can't have it both ways). I would suggest you contact a local advice centre to decide if you should claim JSA or if your parents should reclaim child benefit/tax credits. Claim JSA if your parents are no longer receiving Child Benefit you may well be entitled. Remember you always have a right to claim, the powers that be will then make a decision as to whether or not you are eligible to receive anything.

Personally I would try to obtain another job for a while.

You can claim JSA as long as you are genuinely looking for a job.
