Tax credits & sure start maternity grant?

Hope someone can help me.

I've been trying to figure out if we would be entitled to the sure start maternity grant. I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant.

From what i can work out you have to be on the higher family element of £548, ours is £547.50 so does that mean we miss out on it by 50p??!!

We have 2 children aged 8 and 4, my partner works fulltime and his income for 2009-2010 is £10638.00

Thanks in advance for help xx

I was in a similar situation to this and we just applied for it and were successful. It can't hurt, they can only say yes or no! :D

You may be eligible after your baby is born. If you go onto entitledto.com and put in your details pretending that your baby was just born in the last month or so then you'll be able to see what your entitlement will roughly be once your new baby is here. You can apply up to 3 months after your baby is born.
  • Apply anyway.
Receiving tax minimal tax credits (£6 a week prior to change of circumstances to SMP) following the birth of my child, this provided a basis of qualification to apply. It is a nuisance getting your midwife to sign but worth a shot. I got it with one day to spare!

    Hiya

When you say you get the higher family element of £547.50 is that all you get from the TCs?
as you say your partner earned £10638 I would have thought you would have been getting more like £140 a week in WTC & CTCs so that is way over the £548.
Our award also says we get £547.50 for the family element I do think it is the whole amount of CTCs you receive and as that should be over the £548 you should easy qualify for it

Please correct me if Im wrong but I hope this helps

What they mean is you have to be getting more than the family element (ie more than £548 a year)

I think you'd qualify given how low your partner's wage is. Do you receive CTC and WTC (Working Tax Credit) or just CTC, as by the looks of things you'd be entitled to both.

    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

The maternity grant does not factor the whole of TC, only CTC which does not include WTC.

so you do not work yourself? as you should be getting £8k a year in CTC/WTC based on your OHs income, so that is way more than basic rate CTC

With the new award that we have got we now recieve £155 a week, it was £80 per week before that.

I'm not getting paid at the moment no, i work as a volunteer. I thought it was just the family element of tax credits that they take into account not the whole amount.

    Thanks for your help xx
