Immersion heater

Hi guys.

We have an immersion heater in our flat (2-bed) which never gets used and I mean never. If we are doing washing up it's easier to boil a kettle than wait for the tank to fill up and it never gets hot enough anyway. We have a shower cubicle waiting to replace the bath that is there because again we never use the bath.

So. This heater just sits there taking up room and never getting used. I was thinking about therefore getting rid of it but realistically I'm not sure about how I go about it. Do I call in a plumber to take it out? My dad also said that it's probably copper lined so may be worth something - is this going to offset the cost of getting soemone to take it out? And lastly do you think it could be done by us (I suspect it's too big a job - especially as I don't know at all what I am doing with it or even how I would then get rid of it).

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

The immersion heater is just a small thing in the side of the hot water cylinder, which is the thing you are suggesting you remove.

Do you have a gas boiler or are you all electric?

Old cylinders aren't worth enough to offset costs.

Ah right okay. See i told you I knew nothing about it hehe.

It's all electric in the flat. Do you know what roughly it may cost to have it taken out then?

It might be 'interesting' trying to sell a flat with no means of supplying hot water to the taps!

No I said we have a shower cubicle. There is a shower in the bath but I want to get rid of the bath.

And I've looked into alternative means of supplying hot water to the two taps in the small flat which will need them and which will ultimately only be used to do the washing up.
