Completion Date...at last

Finally been given my completion date of next Friday, although I am still pushing for tomorrow as I would like to move in over the long Bank Holiday weekend. For some reason my solicitor isnt too keen though even thought I am willing to pay the telegraphic transfer of the mortgage.

Its dragged on over the last couple of weeks and at times I have thought it was going to fall through so the excitement, nervousness or whatever you want to call it when buying your first home had gone. But its back again and I cant wait for the keys.

Is there anything I need to do during next week ahead of moving into the house? I know about letting people know about my new address such as the bank, mobile phone company etc. What else do I need to be doing?

    well done :j

Personally I would go for the date next week - tomorrow would be far too much of a rush especially with all the calls you'd have to make?

I moved last week and leading up to our move date I made of a list of every company I needed to contact but of course pulled out the most important, those being:

    BT
Powergen (we are taking them with us so needed to give notice to transfer to new property)
    TV licence
    Water company
    Council Tax
    Bank
    Credit Card Company
    Property Insurance
Post Office for mail redirection (need 5 working days to come into effect)

The others are things such as car, pet insurance, etc, I will do over the next few days

What about removal company or are you doing it yourself? If so you'll need to book a van.

I'm sure others will be along to advise other things you need to be doing but I'm still coming down from my move and my head's still a bit foggy!
  • Well done on your move. Was it your first move?

I am going to borrow my uncle (or cousin) and their van for moving and as all furniture etc has been left I dont have that much to move. Its also about a 2 minute drive from my parents (where I currently live) so its not as though I have to make sure everything is moved on day 1. So its going to be quite a relaxed move up to what I imagine it is usually like.

I have signed up to the iammoving.com website which should be quite useful. I went to IKEA last night and bought a load of things I will need so I am quite prepared...I just want the bloody keys.

We are moving this Friday too. Up untill this point it has been one dissapointment after another, solicitors sitting on info for weeks at a time, too many phone calls with no repliers or answers, wories about our buyers pulling out due to long time scales and at last we have exchanged and complete Friday. HOORAY!!
Heres the number for the mail redirection Tel. 08457 740 740
Good luck with your new home, and enjoy. The waiting is all over now :)

    Hi
This might be useful - haven't had chance to try it myself. Good Luck with the move :)
