  • I had to take my cat to the vet last night as i found he had a gash on his rear leg about 3 inches long 1 inch wide and down to the bone it cost 73 pound for the call out to take him to the vets he was operated on another 130 pound 1 nights stay in the vets another 60 pound antibiotic and painkillers another 40 pounds total bill 303 pounds

    was it worth it

yes he is part of the family would have paid whatever it cost
so if you have pets and you think the bills will cost to much dont get a pet in the first place

vets have to earn a living as well

    sorry for going on

  • It's crazy that some vets are being called at 3am about silly things!

If I were to call my vet out of hours I get a recorded message with the number of the nearest emergency practice which is staffed all night, so even if I wanted to bother my regular vet I wouldn't be able to. I'm amazed that any vet allows this kind of thing?

Some practices in rural areas haven't got the luxury of an out-of-hours service (nor would they expect their clients to travel to one). So the vets take it in turns to take the out-of-hours calls. Therefore the vets get woken up by people asking silly questions. Loads. But from the client's point of view they get a great service because they can get free advice from a familiar vet 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It sucks for the vets, but then it's part of the job, and it can't be helped.

I think it would be around a 2 1/2 hour drive to the nearest emergency night vets from here!

I spoke to a man recently who said he owns a company that delivers drugs to vets. He said vets make about 100% profit on their drugs. (Is this true?)
It's no wonder prices are so high.
He drove a flash car and wore designer suits so it looks like everyone is the business is doing well out of us poor cat lovers. I think vets work hard and deal with a lot of difficult situations, but I don't believe they are not making a good living.
