Whats the total hard drive size? and what are you planning to use the rest of the space for?
Remember it is likely to grow over time with various updates and security patches, you don;t want to be forced into repartitioning and reinstalling for trying to save an extra 5GB from a 2TB drive to keep it spare for downloading junk.

I assume you know about migrating 'profiles' so your 'desktop' my documents etc don;t end up on the OS partition too?

I think Rik is correct with 16gb figure (although I'm not too sure if it takes into account system restore points or hibernation files). Also as JasX mentions, you'll need more space over time due to updates/patches/service packs etc. Don't leave yourself short to start with! :)
