Paint first or Tile first?

We are having downstairs loo plastered today with the tiler coming to put marble floor down and mosaic splashback and skirting board on Friday.

We were hoping to paint the walls beforehand but a friend said it'd be better to paint afterwards as you shouldn't tile over newly painted walls. I'm worried about getting paint spray on the tiled floor though, who is right?

Thanks

    Hi

Personally, i would paint the areas that are not being tiled first...............a couple of coats.............this will save cutting in afterwards and still allows the tiler to tile onto plaster rather than paint.

I too would paint first. Saves getting paint on your grout, which will look untidy.

But you can't paint on today's fresh plaster by Friday!

I guess I didn't explain myself properly, I had planned to paint beforehand anyway but if the plaster doesn't dry out enough to get it done before Friday for the tiler (hopefully is should as it's only a small area with good ventilation, the tiling job will have to wait 3 weeks as he goes on holiday. Really want to avoid that as want the job done but then when someone said you can't tile on painted plaster I thought I'd ask on here!

Plaster does not dry in 3 days, either for paint or tiles.
As previously advised, you just paint the areas that are not to be tiled and a bit beyond. Why would you need to paint where the tiles are going?
There should be no problem painting after tiling, just cover up properly and make sure that any spots or runs are wiped off. If you miss anything, emulsion paint is easily removed from glazed tiles.

Why's that? Even for cutting in and a watered down coat?

I'd tile first, then carefully mask the tiles and paint. Unless you're very careless, no reason there should be a problem :)

Before you do anything, the plaster has to dry out first. Needs to be light pink, not dark pink.

Then a mist coat to seal the plaster.

I run a Maintenance Company and we always tile first and then paint. Inevitably, the tiler will get some adhesive / grout on the bits he's not supposed to so you end up having to touch up anyway. Looks like you are trying to rush the job.

Do the job properly and youi do it once. Rush it and you will have to go back to it.
