Kwik Fit? Stay Clear?
Previous threads when asking about other motoring issues, whenever 'Kwik Fit' was mentioned it wasn't usually in a good lite. I've never used 'Kwik Fit' & once again I was looking at there MOT & servicing prices? Should I stay clear? is there anyone who as just used them or would recommend them?
Thx

Usually use my local Kwik fit as its extremely handy and the convenience outweighs the price differences in my situation. To date I have only really used them for tyres and batteries which have always been trouble free. An interesting anecdote though, the last time I was there the mechanic was explaining to a guy with a high-end BMW that his front tyre had a bulge in the side wall and was dangerous, this guy kept insisting 'it's fine, it's fine' while the mechanic almost pleaded with him not to use the car till it was fixed. In the end he drove off with the guys in the garage shaking their heads in disbelief. Just hope he intended to get it fixed and didn't continue to use the car, it's all very well killing yourself in a motorway blowout, but what about the danger to others, some people are so selfish. I got the impression that this bloke would be down the pub later telling his mates that the kwik fit guys were trying to rip him off by getting him to buy a tyre he didn't need!0

^^ I'd be suspicious too, these places love to drum up trade.....
First it's a tyre, then with the wheel off they tell you your brakes need replacing and your shocks are leaking and while it's on the ramp they notice your CAT is rattling and before you know it, you think your cars falling apart and looking at a quote for £750.
When I take my car to these places I make it crystal clear that I have all work done my a friend or another garage.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.
oh is a mechanic and one of our friends daughters needed a tyre, unusually all his friends were busy and she neded it that day as she was off on hols so he sent her to kwikfit - needs must, when she got there they told her her brakes were knackered, she needed new disks and pads and it was unsafe to drive. luckily she didnt believe them and took it back to oh who was able to show her that the brakes were fine as he had done a full service of her car the week before which included stripping the brakes and replacing where required.
she was meant to get a tyre then but forgot - doh'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
Most of the people that work in these places cannot be called mechanics.
the most they will have is an NVQ level 2 if you are lucky.0 -
Stay away from Kwik-Fit. Unless you like giving money to a corporation. Look at the MOT service guide here.0

yep stay away...they lure you in with cheap deals , then scam extra work from you at over the top prices0

I don`t think QF are quite as bad as some say. I drive a company car and during the winter hit a large pothole on an unlit lane. There were a couple of dings in the steel rim and a nasty wobble in the steering.
QF are the preferred supplier so I asked them to take a look. The mechanic bashed my rim round again with a sledghammer and pronounced the tyre OK.
I am sure this would have be a good opportunity to sell a tyre and maybe even a rim but there was no charge.

B
different for company cars as the tyre has to be worn to 1.6mm of tread
all damaged tyres are witheld for inspection by the leasing co
also the lease co wont allow them to supply wheels.
and yes kwik fit are rubbish0
