External HD question

Hi all,

Hope someone can help me out, i'm quickly running out of space on my internal HD, and i'm looking to buy a Western Digital 250gb 'my book' external HD (7200rpm). I would like to know first before the plunge, if connected to USB2 would it be quick enough to burn from this external HD to my internal pioneer dvd-rw drive at 8x or even 16x without constant buffer underruns?.

Many thanks in advance

Dave

You should be ok because the USB2 interface can transfer the data faster than the DVD-RW can consume it.

    USB2 transfer rate is 480 Mbit/s.

1x speed rating for DVDs is 10.56 Mbit/s, so 16x is 168.96 Mbit/s - well within the USB transfer rate.
