Its ridiculous how many of these there are - a friend of mine was looking for a houseshare a while back, and every third property was clearly a scam... from "missionary pastors" upwards - no shame..

Yes, the "missionary pastors" thing is rich because the fact is that it is usually quite easy for real missionaries to find people to rent their house in their own or other local Churches, so they simply don't need to advertise more publicly!

My wife had a tenancy like that when she first worked and my son has a house share in London acquired in a similar fashion.

Actually the methods have changed:

• There are pictures (including interior)
• Contact name is pure English

Yes, they have improved. I got led down the garden path recently, but then was asked for money and realised what it was.

And totally agree it is a combination of greed and stupidity. I was tempted with a lovely looking flat, at a good price, but never sent money of course.

We did, however, string one of them along for about 10 emails - which got ever more creative. We offered to pay 6 months upfront so they were willing to put in the time to string together an wonderful story. But when we asked them for a small deposit to confirm THEY were serious, things suddenly changed!

Use Western Union to transfer the money to friend/family member etc.....

Any WU MTN number you give this scammer will be checked on-line by the scammer before they make the trip to the WU office. Try checking on the scam-baiting sites like 419eater for ideas...

Apparently, it may not be possible to check the status of a MoneyGram money transfer on-line, so may want to see if you can the scammer to make numerous visis to the MoneyGram office in an attempt to collect the money you never sent in the first place.

Will ask them to use MoneyGram instead of Western Union.
