And does it vary from one banking institution to another?

I tried to transfer £17k from an Alliance & Leicester a/c to FD via internet banking but was immediately logged out of internet banking. Have I gone over a preset limit & if so, what is the limit?

Most of the banks still have limits for faster payments however even if that limit were exceeded it should still be able to be sent as a standard 3 day BACS payment.

The Halifax online site has a tendency to die on Monday mornings for about half an hour around the time of your posting - you're with A&L but dropped sessions (I'm a web developer) e.g. forced logouts can be a sign of server overload and in no way related to anything you did.

You could try it again... or give A&L a call...

Remember that it is part of Santander and therefore cannot be expected to work properly. See the myriad of other posts complaining about them.
