    FIATs are not all bad, the Panda is one of the most reliable cars you can currently buy. The Punto does have a bad reputation but there are plenty of 14 year old ones still running around.

    A Corsa 8V is well worth looking out for, avoid the 12 or 16v Ecotec models unless it has full service history.

    A Fiesta 1.3 OVH is well worth looking into as well if you can find one which hasn't rusted away.

    Unless the insurance is cheap enough (will do quotes later), I will be sticking to a 1.0L engine - for my own safety during my first year of driving, and insurance costs.

    Will certainly be saving a lot more, to make sure I get a decent Micra!
