Need a small car, budget around £2.5k

Ok, I am starting a new job in a couple of months time, giving up my current high flying job along with the stress and a company car for a part time job in the NHS (screening technician which is going to be community based)
So I need to get a car, I will be using it for travelling around the area to different clinics but obviously I know I get my fuel reimbursed.
I have around £2.5k to spend but want something small, reliable, economical to run, cheap to repair etc.
Previously I have owned a fiesta which was a rust bucket and always breaking down, and a couple of clios, one was fantastic and never let me down, the other one which was brand new broke down on the way home from the showroom and continued to be unreliable!
Can anyone give me an idea of model/age I should look at?
I have seen a few cars for sale privately nearby but when I use parkers to get an idea, they seem very overpriced, not sure who to believe!

best bet would be honda jazz or toyta yaris 2002-2003 both around £2.5k
or for something slightly bigger a civic of the same year would be a safe purchase0 -

I think you might be pushing the budget to get an 02/03 Yaris/Jazz/Civic? And if you did it would probably be high miles or rubbish spec.
I'd go with something like a Corsa. There are loads second hand so you have a wide choice of the best one. Always try to get a good spec model as these will sell easier (when the time comes) e.g. Sxi. Parts and servicing should be reasonable. Insurance cheap as chips.
Try autotrader website to get a feel for car prices and also the local paper.
Look at the Honest John website for car reviews0 -
Kia picanto? They're that cheap, £2.5k will buy you several. And will be newer than the jap options.0
