I would greatly appreciate advice on this: the electricity switched off suddenly and when I re-started my computer, I was unable to open any word or Adobe files :/

They seem corrupt (don't show the normal word format and I can't access any:eek::eek::eek::eek:), can you please suggest what to do?

Just to add that when I try to re-install Microsoft, I keep getting the message that I can't access certain files MSTORE10.aw or something
PS, I am an utter idiot when it comes to computers  :o

Maybe the file associations are wrong for some reason. Can you start Word without opening any documents and then open a document by going to File -> Open? Try the same for Adobe files with the Adobe Reader.

Thanks a lot for your reply..when I click on Word it just says ''preparing to install"; for ever :0(

when I try to re-install Microsoft, I keep getting the message that I can't access certain files MSTORE10.aw or something

Other programmes will open very slowly (10 times slower) but I am eventually able to log on. I can open Dreamweaver but Word tries to re-install..and it won't re-install itself!!

You have two separate issues; accessing your Word docs ithout a functioning version of Word, and re-installing Word so that it works.

How did you install Word in the first place? If it came pre-installed, do you have an install disc for it?

If you open your Word docs with a text editor such as Notepad, you can get at the raw text content, but it won't have any formatting on it.

Are you trying to re-install Word on its own, or Windows?

How are you trying to re-install? From discs, or from a recovery partition on your PC?

There is a repair function in help in word. Failing that delete the Word's normal.dot file http://resources.marshalladulteducation.org/techtips/techtip72.htm and see if that works.
  • There was a problem, had to remove all ((

This may point in the right general direction. Can't post the link to the info though.

"There are a couple of other things you can try.

Rename the main catalog Mstore10.mgc to Mstore10.old. The Organizer will create
a new catalog. You will lose any custom keywords and categories that you may
    have created.
The catalog is in a folder similar to this: (Hidden)
    C:\Documents and Settings\<<user name>>\Application Data\Microsoft\Clip
    Organizer

It that doesn't solve the problem, move the Internet Temporary Folder."

Could be a corrupt disk - might be worth running chkdsk to fix it.
