Offset your Road Tax and MOT/Insurance
I seemed to have helped 2 people with this today so I thought I'd post it in case it helps anyone else.
We all know how expensive it is when your MOT, Insurance & Road Tax comes round at the same time. Well, If you only buy 6 months road tax the next time it is due and then when that expires you pay for 12 months, you won't have all the costs at the same time. Continue to pay for 12 months and you won't have the situation of your MOT or insurance running out and causing you problems taxing your car!
My dad told me to do this over 20 years ago and I've done it ever since with every car I've ever had. I just wish we could pay direct debit for road tax but that would be a logistical nightmare for the DVLA!
Hope this helps someone. -X-

I always tell people to buy Post Office saving stamps every now and then and cash them in for Road Tax. Buy a fiver's worth every other week, it soon mounts up.0

I just put money aside every week or month or so in a separate bank account for car stuff.
Off setting road tax is all very well until you buy your next car and everything could well be out again.0 -
I deliberately put 6 months instead of a year on my car when I bought it for this reason - it's going to be bad enough having to pay out about £1000 for insurance, MOT and servicing in January!0

My MOT is due in July and my RT is due end of Jan grrr lol0

Paying for 6 months is more expensive than paying for 12 though, not very money saving!0

Yes, on the first 6 months it is, I agree but, unless you change your car every couple of years, offsetting it can make all the difference to a lot of people who are like me and on a tight budget.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024
