nPower driving me up the wall!!
Hi,
Need some advice please - so I noticed last month that since about January I have been paying £506 a month on Gas & Electricity - so, I called up nPower and said why the heck am I paying so much?? the guy stated that my house uses up a lot of Gas supply......not that I remember!
Anyway, I told him that all the bills are coming through as "estimates" and no one has come round my house since Novemeber last year....so the operater said he will send someone over to get a reading..............no one came!
In the end I knew about nternet meter reading and signed up and gave the reading. Talk about being WAY OFF the estimate that nPower think I am on.
So, they pretty much correctly predicted my electric reading but Gas is ridiculous - the ESTIMATE they sent through was "24227" and I just looked at the gas reading and it is "17730"!!! They can happily send as many engineers to confirm that!!
Nowthen, I am going to phone up nPower in the morning about this - whats the chance of getting money back?
Thanks,
lara

They will try and persuade you to just pay less, e.g. have a lower DD for until it evens out.
Just keep saying no, you want a refund. If they keep saying no, ask what happens if you leave - they have to give you a refund. So then you say, well if that is the only way I can get a refund....
Also, get the persons name, try and get them to confirm in email, ask them when cheques are posted, etc etc.
I would also be tempted to cancel any DD until it is sorted.
Good luck, it ain't going to be much fun!0 -
many thanks for the tips and advice - I will let you know how it goes!!!0

First thing to rememember is to check your reads every bill and if they show estimate 12345(E) then phone in with a read. I guess the estimates they worked on were either based on historical data from that meter or an average for your area.I am assumingh you are on DD
Anyway back to the overpayment? Have they reassesed you? Ask them to and reset your DD and refund any overpayment?
If you are not on DD and have a cerdit balance insist on a refund immediatley.
Hope this helps.0 -
You say they have not come since November, thats only 7 months ago, they only have to read every 2 years so as said the onus is on the customer to check their bills.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi lara400 - Do not cancel your D/Debit to n'power
N'powers position at, or near the top of the Switch sites for value, depends on the large cash-back sum you get every year, but to get it you must have made 12 consectutive Direct Debit payment over that year - stop your D/D's even for one month and you will lose the cash-back0 -
Its as much your responsibility to sending in meter reading as it there's its really not that difficult. You read the meter then phone you supplier if you've not been submitting bill then its a much your fault for estimates you cant expect a company to send some over every month they'd go bankrupt.0
